Saint Joan of Arc

I am St. Joan of Arc. I was born in the year 1412 in Domrémy-la-Pucelle. I heard a lot of voices and saw a lot of visions of saints at my home. Why did they appear to me? I didn’t know until...The voices told me that I was the only one who could save France and I would have to join the army, but I didn’t believe them. But the saints kept telling me I was the only one who could save France. So I went to the Dauphin, and he tested me, to see if I was worthy to join the army. I passed his test, for he had realised that I was a messenger of God. The Dauphin said that I could fight for his army, but to do so, I had to pretend I was a boy.

When I was at the battle field, I rode on the Dauphin’s white horse, and held the French flag. I didn’t fight. But one day, my army and I, were outnumbered, so they retreated and left me behind. I then was captured by the enemy. In their place where they kept me, there was a tower that overlooked the courtyard. I jumped of the tower, and miraculously. It took me a long time to recover, but when I did, the enemy caught me and brought me to a cell. There, I stayed until they brought me and condemned me to death at the age of 19!

Now here I lay in heaven watching people celebrate my feast day on May 30th.

Phyllis Wong Book Review

Phyllis Wong
and the
FORGOTTEN
SECRETS of MR OKYTO

Screenshot 2014-12-12 at 5.35.56 PM.png

Phyllis Wong and the forgotten secrets of Mr Okyto, is about a girl named Phyllis. Her great grandfather was the Great Conjuror of Wonder, so conjuring is in her veins. When continuous robberies occur, Phyllis is determined to find out more, even if it is baffling Chief Inspector Inglis. She learns that not all crimes has a simple explanation.

My favourite character is Phyllis’ friend, Clement because instead of Phyllis getting really hurt, he got injured. He is also very faithful to Phyllis.

I recommend this book to people ages 9+ and to people who like magic and mystery books.

RaPunzel review

RAPunzel
N.Z. Auckland Playhouse acted a play named RAPunzel, in Christ the King hall at 11:30am on Wednesday 12th of November. It was entertaining.

When the first actor named Jack, introduced himself, as Simon Cow. The audience roared with laughter. Simon Cow also said some sophisticated humour that made the seniors laugh.

The third actor named, Ben was Prince Rupert, and was finding a place to hide from his father, his pants were hanging loose at the back. So we could see his underwear, the audience were laughing hysterically. The juniors laughed the hardest.

When Rapunzel(Jane), Simon Cow(Jack), and Prince Rupert(Ben), were on the stage rapping. The audience booed Simon Cow as he went forward to do his rap.

The actors did a great job at acting, and did an even better job at entertaining the audience.

I recommend this to people who love humorous plays, and especially to juniors. Because there was slapstick humour. Some seniors would also enjoy it because there also was sophisticated humour.

PERCY JACKSON

AND THE LIGHTNING THIEF

Screenshot 2014-12-11 at 6.37.29 PM.pngPercy Jackson and the lightning thief, is about a boy named Perseus Jackson, who was just a normal kid, going to school...until he accidentally vaporized his maths teacher. He hasn’t lived a normal life since. He spends his time fighting with swords, battling monsters, and trying to stay alive.

I recommend this book for ages 10 and above, because you need to be mature to handle what is happening and there are hard words. It is suitable for older people because it is action packed, and there is a lot of adventure in it.

Gracious God,
I can see your creation through the koru
I can see the waves that your mighty arm created
I can feel you everywhere I go, like feeling the grass in a field beneath my feet. For everywhere you go in a field there is grass
I can hear the wind whispering a message from you in my ears
I can feel the koru plants that you have created, which shows your love for me.

Margaret & the giants

There was once an old man who had 2 sons, and 1 daughter, who lived in a small cottage away from the village. The elder son, Menelaus was selfish and mean to his siblings. Christopher, the second son, liked to be better than Menelaus, and he bullied his younger sister, Margaret. Margaret, the youngest had more brains than the other two combined.

One day the family ran out of food, so he asked his elder son, Menelaus to go to the town square and ask for some bread and cheese. Menelaus grumbled and groaned, and finally set off to the town square. There he saw people screaming and running out of the castle. He entered the castle full of curiosity to know what all the racket was about. Then he saw a humongous , mean, and ugly giant that he had ever seen. The giant roared, “Give me all your gold, and I might spare your life!” Menelaus ran back home and told everyone what had happened.

Christopher, who always wanted to beat his brother at everything, said, “Mene, you scaredy cat! I will get the bread and cheese, and kill the giant!” So off he went, to the town square where the giant was thrashing and throwing people. Christopher unsheathed his dagger and started thrashing his sword at the giants ankle. The giant, who was thrashing the bodies, stopped, dropped the body and started to giggle. He giggled and giggled until he couldn’t hold it any longer, so he guffawed. Christopher was so shocked at the giants laugh(because a giants laugh sounds like he is coughing or choking) that he ran all the way back home. He was so ashamed, to tell everyone what had happened that Menelaus teased him until it was time to sleep.

That night, Margaret crept out of bed and went out the front door, and headed for the town square. She didn’t know where the town square exactly was, but she knew that she was close, because of the familiar giant laugh. Then she went through a small crack in the wall, and peeped through. There she saw, not 1, but 3 giants laughing. Margaret was so disgusted at the ugliness of the giants, that she picked up the nearest thing next to her, and threw it at the giants. Thock! The thing that was next to her was a dead body, it hit one of the giants square in the eye. The giant howled in pain, but the other 2 stood up and walked/stomped to Margaret. She thought that they wouldn’t be able to see her, but then one of the giants snatched  her and said, “Now, would you look at that, I think I just found what we need to do the job!” The giants crowded around her and looked at her like she was their dinner. The one who was holding her, led the other giants outside a castle, there he said, “I will hurl you on top of the castle. I want you to open the castle door and let us in. You, got it?!” Shakily Margaret said, “But won’t the guards get me?” The giant with the hairy nose said, “We already killed all the guards, so HURRY UP!!!” So the giant who was holding Margaret, threw her on top of the castle. Margaret went down windy stairs, until she came to the bottom floor. There she wondered, why do the giants want to enter this castle so badly? But then she knew why, because there at the far end of the room, was 18 cauldrons overflowing with gold. Margaret then said, “I don’t want to let the giants take all this gold!” So Margaret thought of a plan as she gazed at the small door. “Hurry up and let us in!” said the giants. Margaret then replied, “I’ll let you in the smaller door because I can’t open the big one!” So Margaret opened the smaller door. The giant with the hairy nose squeezed himself through, but he got stuck, then Margaret unsheathed her sword and stabbed the giant in the heart. Then the other giant pushed the dead body of his way and poked his head through, Margaret then sliced his head. The other giant squeezed through and said, “Give me the gold and I might spare your life!!!” But Margaret merely said, “Wish I could say the same thing to ya.” Then she stabbed him in the heart and sliced his head off. Then she ran to the kings room and told him that she had killed the giants, but the king didn’t believe her, so she showed him the bodies of the giants. The king then said, “I must award you for the giants have been a great threat to the kingdom, what is it that you want?” Margaret thought hard and finally she answered, “My family needs some food, so is it ok if I may come to the castle and give some food for them?” The king nodded and said, “But I want to give YOU the reward because YOU were the one who enslaved the giants.” Without skipping a beat, Margaret answered, “Can I be a knight? Even though I am a girl?” The king then said, “Then let it be done, the first ever girl to protect the kingdom from harm!”

Then they lived Happily Ever After!
The End

Lily’s Diary

18 December  2018
Dear diary,(Or to whoever is reading this)
I am VERY excited, because it is only 7 more days until it is CHRISTMAS!!! I have already got a present for my brother, which is an xbox 360 game called ‘Destiny’ . Which I wrapped with an xbox wrapper and  a christmas wrapper. So on one side it has a xbox wrapper, and on the other side, it has a christmas wrapper(which looks kind of funny :) )I also have my fathers present which is a new badminton racket. I haven’t wrapped it yet, because I don’t know how to wrap it.(How do you wrap a racket?) The only present that I need to get now, is a present for my mother.

19 December

Today, I went to my cousins house where we did secret santa. There, all of our names are placed into something(preferably a hat) and then each of us pick out a name, and whoever we get, is who we have to give a present to. Then, it was my turn, I stepped to the table, and picked out a name. Carefully I  unfolded it, under my breath I whispered, “I am going to give a present to…” I cut off because of the name that was written on the piece of paper. “I’m going to give a present to MYSELF?” I said, scarcely a whisper. “Oh, you have to put that back in the hat, Lily, then get out a new one.” Said my Aunt. So I picked out another piece of paper and opened it, quicker this time. Relieved I sighed and leaned against the wall, for, on the paper it said the name ‘JASMINE’ . Jasmine is my favourite cousin. “It is going to be easy to get a present for Jasmine.” I thought.

20 December
5 more days, and I still haven’t got a present for my mother!!! But not only do I have to give a present to my mum, but I also have to give a present to Jasmine. Luckily though, my family are going to Lynn mall tomorrow. Oh, and I finally have found out how to wrap a badminton racket. Well, not really, because my mum did most of the wrapping.

21 December
Today, I went to Lynn mall, and there I bought a present for Jasmine and a present for my MOTHER!!! Finally! So my present for jasmine is the whole book series of a Dog and his Girl Mysteries. My Mothers present is some baking equipment because my mother LOVES baking. I put them under the Christmas tree already. I also bought my brother, father, and mother’s favourite chocolate, and put it in their stockings. I am super EXCITED for CHRISTMAS!!!

24 December
I...can’t...believe...that...It’s CHRISTMAS EVE!!! I can hardly sleep! My family and I are going to my cousins house on the 26th of December, again for a surprise at lunch time. No one knows what the surprise is, only my Aunt and my dad. I can hardly wait!

25 December
It’s CHRISTMAS!!! I can’t believe it! Right now, I am downstairs beside the Christmas Tree, and am writing what YOU are reading right NOW. My hands are shaky so please excuse my shaky handwriting. Now I’m opening my present...It’s what I always wanted! Woohoo! It’s a Rebel messenger Bow! OH Yeah! My brother then opens his present that I gave him. When he sees it he shouts, “Yeah! Thanks Lily!” I smile and say, “You’re welcome.” I am glad that I have made someone happy this Christmas. Then my mother and father open their presents and I notice the joy and happiness in their eyes, even though they don’t really show it. Then we change and get ready to go to my cousins house. My brother asks if he can play Destiny, and when my parents say yes, he immediately puts the disk inside our X-Box 360 and, waits for it to load. Then I get my Rebel Messenger Bow out, I then aim and shoot at the wall, and I completely miss. It lands at my feet. Wow. :D

26th December
It’s Boxing day! My family went to Farmers and other shops to buy things for ourselves and wrappings for secret santa. Then we got our presents for the person who we give a present to, and drive to my cousins house. There my auntie produced a box of chocolates and said, “If you can guess your secret santa, you’ll get a chocolate.” I really wanted to guess who my secret santa was, so I thought, who was kind to me the last few weeks. My thoughts were interrupted because Jasmine shouted loudly, “I know who my secret santa is! It’s Lily!!!” I nearly jumped out of my skin. I gave her my gift and smiled and said, “Merry Christmas Jasmine! :)”

My Pourquoi Story

How the Cockatoo got it’s crest
In the very early days of Australia, the Antarctic Petrel would gather all of the birds to a meeting to teach them. He would teach each one of them how to use their unique features. Now in those days, Cockatoo’s didn’t have a crest on their head.

One day the Antarctic Petrel called everyone for a meeting. There he said, “There are too many birds flying, I would like someone to stay on the ground.” Then he looked at the Cockatoo, “How about you?” He asked the Cockatoo. “No, no no thank you! I am happy flying round gracefully...it would be an insult to be on the ground.” Answered the Cockatoo instantly. Then the Antarctic Petrel frowned and dismissed them.
Screenshot 2014-11-11 at 10.16.45 AM.pngThe next day, the Barking Owl said, “That Cockatoo is so rude! I can’t believe that he said, It would be an insult to be on the ground!’ Especially in front of Emu, Lyrebird and Thalasso Ica, the Antarctic Petrel!” The Barking Owl wanted to punish the Cockatoo, so he went to the Superb Fairy-wren. He went to the Superb Fairy-wren, because she has a way with people, and can often make them agree with her. When the Barking Owl came to the Superb Fairy-wren’s habitat, he saw him eating insects with his social group. He waited until he had finished eating, then he barked to let him know that he was there. The Superb Fairy-wren was used to this sound, so he wasn’t surprised when the other Fairy-wrens took off. The barking owl then told the Superb Fairy-wren that he would like the Cockatoo to be punished because of his rude behavior. The Superb Fairy-wren listened intentively and agreed that the Cockatoo should be punished. “I’ll convince other’, and I think tha' I can easily convince Thalasso Ica! Do not worry my friend, I’ll sur'ly get that Cockatoo punished!”

The next day, the Cockatoo got ready for his daily race with the Rainbow Lorikeet. But when he came, instead of fluffing his feathers and getting ready for the race, the Rainbow Lorikeet said, “I will not race with you, you vermin! May it be an insult to your species that you will have such an ugly feature on your head!” and with that, he flew away. Startled and bewildered, the Cockatoo, flew to his trusty friend. When he reached his friend’s habitat, he called to him, and out went the Kookabura. The Kookabura said to him, “I am not your friend anymore. I can’t believe you said no to the Antarctic Petrel! I have been asked to tell you this, ‘you are to come to the meeting today, at the usual place, just before feeding time.’ that is an order from the Antarctic Petrel, you HAVE to come!”

Just before feeding time, the Cockatoo nervously went to the usual meeting place, every bird was staring, or glaring at him. Then when he had perched on a branch, the Antarctic Petrel said, facing the terrified Cockatoo, “Cockatoo stand up!” Then facing the crowd, he said, “He is the one! The one who has given shame to his specie. For he did not listen to my simple order! Let this shame be continued to his kind. What shall his punishment be?” he asked. The Rainbow Lorikeet spoke up, “Give him an ugly feature on his head!” He squawked. “Give him something red!” said the Red Lory. The Barking Owl whispered something to the Superb Fairy-wren, and he nodded his head. Then the Superb Fairy-wren spoke, “If I may speak, I and the Barkin’ Owl would like him ta wear the crest of shame. Yes, it will be on his head, an’ yeah it'll be red.” The crowd tweeted and chirped at this suggestion, even the Antarctic Petrel. “Then let it be done.” said the Antarctic Petrel. But when they put it on, someone put glue and made it stick permanently on his head. No matter how hard he shakes his head.

So that is how the Cockatoo got the red crest on his head.

Moment in Time:

Our visit to the Mary Mackillop CentreScreenshot 2014-10-23 at 9.40.52 AM.png

The sun reflecting on the chalice, shines in my eyes. I am at the Church of the Josephite sisters, with the whole of Christ The King School.

I look at Father Peter (who is celebrating the mass)he is consecrating the wine. Father Peter is wearing a gleaming white vestment. I can see his silver watch on his left wrist. His left hand is holding the top of the chalice and his right hand is holding the bottom, his gaze is at the book. Then I look at the altar in front of him. It is a smooth light brown, circular table. On the altar are two cream candles opposite each other on the edge. In the middle is a black microphone on a stand. Covering the altar is a white frilly table cloth. On the left of the table is a smaller table which also has a white frilly table cloth covering it, a bottle of wine, and a bottle of water. I notice a bouquet of  flowers in front of the brown circular altar. It has orange-red and light pink flowers in a white vase. Then something in the corner of my eye catches my gaze, it is the dark brown tabernacle which is fit into a space in the wall behind Father Peter. On it is carved something that looks like a fish. I look at the rest of the wall. It is pure white, except the space in the wall, which is light brown. I turn my eyes to the tabernacle.

While I continue gazing at the tabernacle, with the body of Christ inside, I wonder about Jesus’ sacrifice for us, and how God rose him from the dead and took him to heaven, Body and soul, and how we are gathered here together with the Josephite sisters, to celebrate the Eucharist.

Midnight for Charlie Bone is about an eleven year old boy named, Charlie starts to notice weird things happening to him. Charlie gets asked by Julia Ingledew, who is a book store owner, to find her long lost niece that her brother traded for a case.
This case was given to Charlie and he was also given the task to find the lost girl and to find out more about his special power. Charlie’s special power lets him hear what people are saying in the photo. His vile and nasty grandma Bone, sends him to Bloor’s Academy. At first, the Academy looks like a dreaded place, but it could be where the lost girl could be. So with the help of his friends, and some of his family, Charlie goes on his first adventure at Bloor’s Academy, to find the lost girl in favour of Miss. Ingledew.

I like this book because  it is very interesting.   It is so good that every part is an interesting part. I can’t put the book down even for a minute! My rating for this book is 5 STARS!!! I recommend this book to people who love a bit of magic in their adventure books, and to people who are ages 9 and above.

Book Review_Castle of Shadows

Castle of Shadows

Screenshot 2014-08-22 at 10.02.13 AM.png

Castle of shadows is about a girl named Charlie, short for Charlotte. Charlie is a princess, but she is not an ordinary princess because, she climbs, dirties her clothes, she hates wearing dresses, and she also hates learning her manners/etiquette. She makes friends with Tobias, Tobias is the gardener of the castle. With the help of Tobias, Charlie searches for her mother, because, her mother mysteriously vanished/disappeared 5 years ago.

My favourite character is Tobias, because he helped Charlie to find her mother, even though at first he was a bit unsure. My least favourite character is Alistair Windlass because he killed Charlie’s Father(the king) and he also killed Tobias’s cousin’s friend. I also don’t like Alistair Windlass because he tries to get the secret formula of a dangerous weapon. That weapon can wipe out a whole city in one blow.

I recommend this book to people who like reading adventure books. This book is appropriate to ages 9yrs old and above, because you need to be mature enough to handle what is written in this book.

Moment In Time_The Beach

“Swish, swish.” I can hear the waves splash on the sand in the distance. I can see the white foam which forms when the water splashes. I put my nose in the air and smell the pungent sea smell. There are a lot of people on the beach.

I step forward, then I hear a voice say, “Careful! Don't step forward!” I freeze and look around. Then I notice two boys looking at their sand castle that they have just finished building. I look at one of the boys, he is about 7 or 8 years old. He is only wearing board shorts, those boardshorts have a pattern of green leaves and red flowers which are very bright. He is carrying a spade above his head. The handle is brown, and the head of it is dark blue. The other boy is wearing a grey coloured short sleeved t-shirt, and black shorts. He is holding a bucket, I can see the sun reflecting on it so I, shield my eyes. Then I look at the sea. At the far end, it is a dark blue colour. In the middle of the sea is a turquoise colour, the sea closest to me is just white foam.

I look at the two boys, who are looking triumphantly at the sandcastle that they have just made. I consider that it is such a pity that some beautiful beaches are ruined by pollution. Some beaches are also ruined because there are alot of rubbish on the sand. “At least this beach is not polluted.” I say to myself.

Moment in time: The Park

“Ha ha ha!” I squirm as I hear a loud booming laugh. I can feel the soft breeze brushing against me. I can hear the rustle of the leaves, swaying in the breeze. I’m at the park. I see two people sitting on a bench. Father and son.

Then I hear a conversation going on. “Really, I mean it, since you have been practising your skills, you are getting better and better. Achieving goals, cheering your teammates on, you might be a captain.” I am intrigued in their conversation, so I listen for some more. “Really, you really think so dad?” I hear the boy say. The dad then says in an encouraging voice, “I know you can do it, really. You know when I was your age…” I am still confused about what they are talking about, but then I notice that the boy is holding a soccer ball. The bench was creaking as they moved uncomfortably on it. I look around and I am surprised to see that the other benches are deserted.

As I stare at a particular bench and realise that it has a lovely colour of lightish orange colour. The dad then says, “ When you are older, I bet that you will be in the fifa world cup, and the star of your team.” I look at the boy, he is smiling, an unsure smile, but still glad that his dad said that. The white part of his shoe glisten in the sunlight. His orange t-shirt is flapping slightly in the breeze. And his light brown shorts would move a little bit then stop, and then it would move a little again. His dad is in a casual outfit, dark blue short sleeved t-shirt, and light blue jeans.

The reflection of the sun on the ball caught my eye. I then wondered about the conversation that they had earlier. Fifa world cup is happening and the boys dads goal/dream for his son. Do all fathers really care for their child’s interests and goals? Or do they just tell their child what they want them to do? Sometimes fathers just force their children to do what they want. But what about children’s freedom? Our rights? Or do children have no rights?

Camping Holiday

Screenshot 2014-08-14 at 9.36.41 AM.png“Swish swish”, I can hear the waves splashing on the sand. I’m at the beach. My friends are just walking towards my dad and me. My dad then says, “Hurry up you lot! Or I’ll feed you to the fish!” My family and friends are here at the beach, for a camping holiday.

I see the the bright fire and it’s flames leaping towards me ready for a fight. I dare to step forward. As I step forward, I can feel the sand creeping inside my shoes. The sand is squelchy sand damp between my toes. I look up and see my friends walking eagerly to the fire, my dad is grinning from ear to ear, because of his joke that he has just told my friends.

Screenshot 2014-08-14 at 9.36.56 AM.png

I turn to the sea, it’s aqua colour amazes me. The sea is calm and motionless. The ripples in the water are mesmerizing. Then I see the reflection of the stars on the sea. I look up and see millions of them, twinkling in the night sky. They glisten and light the sky like lights, lighting a stage.

Book Review_Dragonborn

Dragonborn

Dragonborn, is about a boy named Sam. He hasn’t even finished his apprenticeship, when his master, Flaxfield suddenly dies. Soon after, wizards he hardly knows, enter Sam’s masters house, so, full of fear, Sam runs away from the only home he has ever known in his life. But his journey gets stranger and stranger by the minute. Who to trust? Where to go? Questions like that go to his head. But It’s even harder because people are trying to stop him in every way they can to capture him.

My favourite character is Flaxfold, because she is kind, loving, and generous to people. She is plump and a good cook.
